A Review of the Pfaff Embroidery Machine

!: A Review of the Pfaff Embroidery Machine

The Pfaff embroidery machine I would like to review here is the Creative 2144, this is a combination sewing and embroidery machine.

Pfaff have made this machine very easy to use both for sewing and embroidery, in fact the embroidery has been made very user friendly.

I am not going to pretend that this machine is all singing all dancing, but it does have plenty of options for the user and what they provide is very efficient.

There is the ability to resize any design you choose, you can make it bigger or you can make it smaller by around 20%. It doesn't have to be fixed in one place you can move it around. You can alter it by adding parts of another design or adding letters etc. You can make a mirror image and you can rotate it and repeat it.

The instructions tell you how you can combine different designs within the same hoop area and also how to do this by moving the hoop. If you wanted a continuous line of any design you would have to move your hoop to allow this.

The Pfaff embroidery machine allows you to use any design as a multi-hoop design irrespective of which hoop you are using.

A very helpful instruction is information on what kind of stabilizer you should use for different fabrics. This takes all the guesswork away.

You get information on how to fix your hoop properly to your fabric and how you can sew leather and avoid making any marks.

The Creative 2144 very helpfully has a separate motor for bobbin winding, so you can carry on embroidering your design while you are filling another bobbin.

There is a warning light to tell you that the bobbin is running out so make sure this is always turned on because if not the machine will carry on with the design without any thread. This is not the easiest situation to sort out.

If this happens, one way of returning to the point where the thread ran out is to enter the exact stitch number that you want to return to. To find this exact stitch you might have to enter a few until you find the correct one. If you get fairly near you can use your forward and backwards button to return the machine to the exact place. As I said, not easy but it can be done.

The best solution is not to let this happen in the first place!

The Pfaff embroidery machine is simplicity itself, but should you require more features than are inbuilt then you may want to think about purchasing software which costs extra but would give you other functions such as selecting colors from many many thread manufacturers plus other functions.

The hoops you are supplied with as standard are a large 140mm x 225mm and a small 80mm x 80mm including an adapter.

Pfaff supply other hoops for you to add to your accessories such as a medium round hoop, one for embroidering on baseball caps, plus many buttonhole hoops. With this little lot there really wouldn't be much that you couldn't embroider if you wished.

You can buy designs from Pfaff for as little as which sets them apart from other machine manufacturers. Pfaff have a good system whereby you can choose to just buy one design or a whole book.

The Pfaff embroidery machine Creative 2144 is so simple to learn that before you have done much at all you will feel confident to tackle any project.

One downside is the fact that you don't have any sort of timer to tell you how much longer a design will take. Also, the thread colors that you see on the screen are not exact, they are just generic.

If you wanted to see what a design would look like using colors other than those recommended it could be difficult to visualize.

Overall a very functional machine and I would say very good for someone just beginning to try machine embroidery.
